Five Ways To Reduce Stress and Achieve Academic Success

Many students desire to become the best in their academics not only for themselves but for their parents who work tirelessly to provide for their needs. Despite this desire, many are still struggling with poor or at best average grades.

You clicked on this blog post because you are one of those who wish to do well academically.  But do you know that stress might be hindering you from achieving your goals? Stress is terrible for your brain.

Many students are stressed out without knowing it. In this post you will learn how to eliminate the damage stress may be causing in your body which could be affecting your productivity as a student.

1) Learn To Say NO: Research has shown that one's inability to say no is directly proportional to their stress level. Many people feel uncomfortable to say no to requests that they do not personal want to do. You see, trying to please everyone can cause burnout and even depression. You have to understand that saying no is not a bad thing. When you say no to new and unproductive commitments, you show that you honour your existing commitment.

2) Disconnect: Technology provides the opportunity for constant communication. But this creates the expectation that you should be available online 24/7. I experience this as a content creator with over fifty thousand followers on tiktok. People send me messages from all around the world and expect me to respond to them immediately. For you to reduce stress, you must take regular breaks from the internet. This helps you to live in the moment. For you to perform well in your academics, you must consciously limit the number of hours you spend online.

3) Don't Hold Grudges: This may seem to be peculiar to adults. But I have observed during my 9 years as a teacher, that many students tend to have this issue. You must know that holding a grudge comes with negative emotions that create stress. Just thinking about the person or event sends you into fight or flight mode. This is good for survival when a threat is in the present, but when the threat is in the past, holding on to the stress cause havoc on your body creating long term health consequences. As a student, your health is your greatest asset.

4) Sleep: As common as it might be, sleep is one of the greatest blessings to humanity. It is an opportunity for the body to relax, repair and rejuvenate itself. Many students spend long hours at night studying, using social media, playing video games or watching movies. As good as these things are, they shouldn't be an excuse to deprive the body of an opportunity to rest. Prolonged sleepless nights can contribute to increased stress levels. To improve in your academics make sleeping one of your priorities

5) Get a Good Support System: To be productive as a student, you need to recognize your strengths and weaknesses. Do not be shy to ask for help when you need it. For you to get better great without the risk of burnout, you must be strategic in your choice of friends. Students often focus on competing among themselves rather than collaborating with each other. While you spend hours trying to figure out concepts taught in class, you could have simply as for help from a friend who has strength in that area. This will save you time and energy.

As simple as these strategies may seem, they can be difficult to implement at once. But force yourself to attempt them. You can start by having a good night rest tonight.
