IF YOU DON'T HAVE THIS ONE THING YOU WILL STRUGGLE WITH MATHS
Why do many students struggle with maths? Many assume that some have good grades in mathematics as a result of raw talent or just luck.
From my many years of teaching maths, I have seen struggling students become outstanding performers in maths. I have also seen students who once toped their class plummet to the button of the class or become average.
But during one on one mentorship sessions with such students, I discover that once this one thing is restored, the student's performance begin to improve tremendously.
What is this one thing that you must have if you don't want to struggle in maths?
This one thing is PASSION!
You have to become passionate about maths. Passion is more important than talent. Passion can multiply the productivity of your skill. Passion will always beat talent when talent lack passion. If you are not performing well at maths, check your level of interest. You will usually spend your time on things you are passionate about.
But how do I arouse the passion of my students and how can you arouse yours? I usually start our discussion by asking them who they want to be in the future. I also ask them why they want to become that. Then I take out time to listen to how they passionately tell me of their future dreams.
After that I try to match their level of passion by explaining to then succinctly how their failure in maths today will negatively affect their future aspiration.
Then I press further by asking, "will you want to let your dream die?" Most often than not the response is NO! Then I ask them, so what will you do about it? You guessed the answer. The usually say, I will work heard today to achieve my goals.
At the end of such session most of the students leave as new men, fired up with energy, self drive and passion.
In this blog post, you are that student who needs to rediscover his/her passion for maths by seeing the connection between your actions today and the achievement of your goals
Remember, passion is the fuel that drives any person to success whether in maths or in life generally.
